      Home Page    Gallery Index

Here is a selection of pencils made by Richard Best Pencil Company. Richard Best merged with the J.R. Moon Pencil Company, and some of the Richard Best brands continued to be made under the Moon name. Please do not use images without permission.

Aluminum, hex. The one marked No. 2 has a cardboard ferrule, the other is plastic.
Both are embossed on the opposite face with the manufacturer's name.

Bestripe 485, hex with metal ferrule and eraser

Blueprint 625, hex. Yellow and red core for blueprints. Company name imprinted on reverse side.

Damascus Drawing H, hex, capped. The Damascus is unusual in that the name is imprinted across two faces of the body.

      The Patented 'Try-Rex' Shape

A number of the Richard Best pencils have triangular cross section. This is the patented 'Try-Rex' shape. The image at left shows an end view of several 'Try-Rex' pencils. Some of the pencils indicate that the shape is patented, as seen in this cutout from the Vivichrome (see below). Some earlier models say 'Pat. Applied For'.
